Indonesian company invests in Alliance Towers

Indonesian high-rise builder Bersama Digital Infrastructure Asia has partnered with local investment firm Opti-Teknology Philippines Inc. to invest in an independent telecom tower builder and operator in the country.

With the signing of an agreement to subscribe for new shares, Bersama Digital will own 51 percent while Opti-Teknology will own 49 percent of Alliance Towers Corp. will acquire. The transaction is expected to close in September.

The Philippine government has a standard tower policy aimed at improving the country’s information and communication technology infrastructure.

To support this, Alliance Towers intends to work closely with all three of the country’s major mobile network operators (MNOs) as it has received tower orders from them. As of June 30, it operates towers in Visayas and Mindanao.

Opti-Tek and Bersama Digital shareholders complement each other perfectly. They will provide long-term on-site technical, financial and local support to Alliance Towers.

The local tower company was formed by Opti-Tek’s equity owners, who are seasoned business leaders and entrepreneurs with access to significant local resources.

The majority shareholders of Bersama Digital established PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure Tbk. in 2004 and currently continue to control it. Since 2012, Tower Bersama has organically built over 12,000 of its nearly 21,000 towers in Indonesia, making it one of the world’s leading organic tower builders.

“We are confident that Alliance Towers can leverage Tower Bersama’s extremely impressive track record as an organic tower builder and operator. Shareholders will actively support Alliance Towers in its goal to provide high-quality telecommunications infrastructure to improve the lives of Filipino mobile users,” said Sherwin Hing, chairman of Alliance Towers and director of Opti-Tek.

Enrique Y. Gonzalez, director of Alliance Towers and Opti-Tek, described the partnership as “an important milestone” for her company and the industry. He said, “This strengthens our capabilities in delivering mission-critical infrastructure to MNOs.”

Bersama Digital Director Gavin Caudle said he is optimistic about the independent tower sector in the Philippines.

“We understand the importance of having in-depth experience and skills on the ground,” he said, while expressing appreciation for Opti-Tek’s shareholders’ decision to work with them. “We are very committed to supporting the Alliance Towers management team as the company continues to build and operate an independent telecom tower network in the Philippines.”
