ATC: 500 towers for fast Internet

A new firm, the Alliance Towers Corporation (ATC), plans to put up 500 digital towers every year to support a program to speed up digital communications as competition heats up with the recent introduction of broadband Internet through satellite.

ATC is a licensed digital infrastructure company recognized in 2019 by the Department of Information and Communications Technology as a licensed digital infrastructure company, which has since then created partnerships with the largest telecom companies in the Philippines including Smart, Globe and Dito. It was formerly known as ALT Global Solutions Inc.

It has built over 40 towers during the height of the pandemic and plans to build 500 towers a year which would greatly help improve digital connectivity, considering that the Philippines needs to erect 50,000 towers to meet its current shortfall.

“The recent pandemic has brought about the urgent need for fast and reliable Internet connectivity to enable digital transformation and the adaptation of the country to new digital landscapes.

Unfortunately, there is a wide gap between the number of subscribers and the cell sites here in the Philippines to provide the bandwidth and connectivity that the Filipinos demand,” Alvin Tolentino, president and COO of ATC said.

Further, Tolentino stressed that as the country adapts to the rapidly changing times, ATC aims to be a major player in the common tower industry, helping its telco partners provide better service.

Improved digital tech

“Our plans in the pipeline involve initiatives that will help stabilize and expedite programs to address consumer demands for improved digital connectivity across the Philippines,” he explained.

Moreover, the company said the demand for towers is being driven by the increased capacity requirements of users, the 4G expansion and 5G rollout, and the increased number of telco players.

With these demands and the need to provide good connectivity to even unserved and underserved areas, the government has introduced reforms over the last two decades which resulted in the dramatically changing nature of telecommunications in the Philippines, and the establishment of shared telecom infrastructure.

“We acknowledge our role in the success of the country’s digital transformation and advancement. This is why we have selected a management team that has a proven track record in the tech and telecommunications industry to lead our programs and initiatives in building digital infrastructures,” ATC chairperson and CEO Sherwin Hing said.

“Furthermore, we also ensure that our experts are armed with the right extensive information and knowledge to develop our towers, and we have also developed standard parameters to ensure that our sites, services and operations are best-in-class,” Hing noted.

Alliance Towers plans to build 500 cellular towers a year

Digital infrastructure firm Alliance Towers Corp. is expanding its telecommunications tower footprint, banking on growing demand for fast and reliable internet connectivity in the country.

In a statement, Alliance Towers said it plans to build 500 towers a year moving forward after building at least 40 towers amid the pandemic.

The company was recognized as a licensed digital infrastructure firm by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) in 2019 and has since partnered with major telecommunications firms, Smart, Globe, and DITO.

The emergence of independent tower companies such as Alliance Towers was due to the government’s implementation of a “common tower policy” in which telcos will only have to lease towers instead of building their own to reduce the cost of maintenance and in turn cut the cost of telecommunications services.

Alliance Towers said its plan to put up 500 towers yearly coincides with the need for the Philippines to have at least 50,000 towers to meet the growing demand for internet connectivity.

“The recent pandemic has brought about the urgent need for fast and reliable internet connectivity to enable digital transformation and the adaptation of the country to new digital landscapes. Unfortunately, there is a wide gap between the number of subscribers and the cell sites here in the Philippines to provide the bandwidth and connectivity that the Filipinos demand,” said Alvin Tolentino, president and chief operating officer of Alliance Towers.

Our plans in the pipeline involve initiatives that will help stabilize and expedite programs to address consumer demands for improved digital connectivity across the Philippines,” added Tolentino.

The company said demand for towers is being driven by the increased capacity requirements of users, the 4G expansion and 5G rollout, and the increased number of telco players.

Alliance Towers all set to build 500 digital towers a year

Aiming to support the Philippines’ digital transformation and the telecommunications industry efforts to address the growing demand for fast, stable and reliable internet connectivity through tower services, Alliance Towers Corporation (ATC), one of the country’s trusted independent tower companies, is going full speed ahead in building towers that would improve connectivity nationwide.

Recognized in 2019 by the Department of Information and Communications Technology as a licensed digital infrastructure company, Alliance has since then created partnerships with the largest telecom companies in the Philippines including Smart, Globe, and Dito. Formerly known as ALT Global Solutions, Inc. it has built over 40 towers at the height of the pandemic, and plans to build 500 towers a year moving forward. “The nation’s internet connectivity is dependent on the strong collaboration of the government, the digital infrastructure industry and the telecommunications sector. As we join forces to continue progressing the country’s digital status, ATC will remain steadfast in providing digital infrastructures, and increasing the numbers of telecom towers that will serve as an avenue to reach even those in rural areas,” Tolentino and Hing concluded.

Alliance Towers to start building towers for Globe this year

COMMON tower provider Alliance Towers Corp. said it will begin erecting towers for Globe Telecom, Inc. this year, as part of its ambition to build 500 towers a year for the country’s wireless telecommunications operators.

The company recently signed an agreement with Globe, Alliance Towers President and Chief Operating Officer Alvin D. Tolentino said during a briefing on April 8.

He said Globe had “awarded sites in Visayas and Mindanao.”

The company aspires to build 500 towers a year, but with the current pandemic situation, it believes it can build around 200 towers this year for DITO Telecommunity Corp., Smart Communications, Inc., and Globe.

Alliance Towers has built more than 40 towers for DITO and Smart at the height of the pandemic, according to Sherwin G. Hing, chairman and chief executive officer of the independent tower company.

He said 80% of the company’s portfolio is from Globe.

As for the capital expenditures, he said: “We are looking at P40 billion in the next 10 years, or around P4 billion a year.”

Mr. Tolentino cited various factors as drivers of tower demand in the country, including increased data usage with more powerful applications and greater smartphone penetration, rollout of fifth-generation (5G) technology, cost savings from tower sharing, and 4G expansion into areas where 3G is still the dominant technology.

He also noted that the government aims to have 50,000 new towers in the next seven to 10 years just to meet the current capacity shortfall.

“The recent pandemic has brought about the urgent need for fast and reliable internet connectivity to enable digital transformation and the adaptation of the country to new digital landscapes,” Mr. Tolentino said.

“Unfortunately, there is a wide gap between the number of subscribers and the cell sites here in the Philippines to provide the bandwidth and connectivity that the Filipinos demand.”

For his part, Mr. Hing said: “We acknowledge our role in the success of the country’s digital transformation and advancement. This is why we have selected a management team who has a proven track record in the tech and telecommunications industry to lead our programs and initiatives in building digital infrastructures.”

“Furthermore, we also ensure that our experts are armed with the right extensive information and knowledge to develop our towers, and we have also developed standard parameters to ensure that our sites, services and operations are best-in-class,” he added.
